You can make an image have a permanent transparent background. Meaning it will be transparent to use in other programs, e-mail, web pages, etc., not just PSP.
First, read my inst. at this site called "PSP ~ Deleting backgrounds (or eliminating white)". That is very important to do first, or this won't work.
Just to let you know, if you are wanting it transparent for a layout you will
be making in PSP, no need to actually SAVE it with a transparent background. You just delete the background and then copy and paste onto layout and then save the layout itself.
But if you want the background transparent for use in other programs, here's
how...
Make the bck. trans., then click on "File / Export / Gif Optimizer".
Click on the button that says "use wizard".
Make sure "use existing transparent colors" is checked.
The color in the box may not be right here, but just ignore it, it will be okay. Click next.
Click on the color box where it says "what is the color of your bck.".
Click next.
Put the check in "No, use best colors". Click next.
I always have the slider bar all the way to the top here for better image quality. Click next.
You will now see a preview and see that the bck. is indeed trans.
Click finish and save it to your folder of choice.
It will now have a transparent background.
