An example of a use for this tutorial, is putting a photo or graphic in the background of a calendar, such as above.
What you would do first, is bring the template to PSP and then duplicate it by clicking on "Window /Duplicate". Get rid of the original and work with the duplicate so that the original is left intact. Now bring the photo or graphic to PSP and duplicate that too. Now with the calendar template in the foreground, click on "Layers / Promote To Layer". If the template is not a JPG, make it so by clicking on "Colors / Increase Color Depth / 16 Million Colors". Now click on "Layers / New Raster Layer". OK the box that pops up because the default settings should be there. Now click on the flood fill icon Click on the top style box to choose the color white, and open the toggle tool options window and make sure that the opacity is 100, blend mode is normal, match mode is none, and sample merged is checked. Now left click in the template with the flood fill icon activated. Now the calendar will seem to be gone, but don't worry, I will explain later. Now click on the magic wand and open the toggle tool options window. Match mode should be RGB value and sample merged UNchecked. In this case, have the tolerance be around 25, and feather at zero. Now click once (with the magic wand) in the white area you flood filled on the template. Now copy your photo and "Paste Into Selection" on the template. The entire white area will be filled perfectly with your photo. If it's too blurry, then the graphic was too large, and/or not the right dimensions for your template. But since this graphic is going to be faded, the blurs won't be noticed. Click on "Selections / Select None".
Now open the Layer Palette. If you hover your cursor over layer 2, you will see it is indeed your photo on that layer. To the right of layer 2 in the layer palette box, you will see a slide bar. It's at 100% opacity now, so slide so it will fade. You will see the photo fade and the calendar start to show through. Keep sliding it to where you want, and you are all done. Voila!
